The first
thing people ask me about web design is "How much will
it cost?". That is highly subjective. Below are factors
that increase the workload for the designer (and increase the
cost for you). The good news is that you have some control over
these things! You can leave most of this to me but it will add
to the cost. The hardest part for the designer is in producing
the Verbal Content, How is the designer supposed to know what
YOU want to say?
Factors
that affect cost of your website:
- Verbal
Content: Do you have the words you want on each page already
drafted? If not it would be good to start by documenting the
information you want to provide and the message you want to
convey.
- Organization:
Do you have a good idea what you'd like to link within
the site? What about a list of outside websites you want to
link to? If you have all of these things documented it helps
a lot!
- Functionality:
Is you website primarily a) an online brochure? b) A storefront?
c) A place to interact with others (a blog for example)? (NOTE:
I work primarily with the first type).
- Images:
Do you have the artwork you need for the site either in electronic
format or in a high quality image that can be scanned? Do
you need me to help you with your branding?
A few
of the Websites I've designed and the price ranges
|
|
Low Cost
$250 - $500
Most verbal content provided to designer, organized by the
client working together with the designer, functionality simplified
by small size of website and images either provided or very
few images required to be created.
|
Mid Range
$500 - $1500
Most verbal content provided to designer, organized by the
client working together with the designer, functionality more
complex and more images to be optimized and created.
|
High
Range $1500+
Generally more involvement by the designer in creating the verbal
content, organized primarily by the designer with sometimes
little sometimes a lot of input from the client. Higher functionality
and complexity with layers of images, many images created, edited
and optimized by the designer.
